Versature Explainer Video

June 10, 2013 - Paul Emond

We are working with the talented folks over at inMotion to create an Explainer Video that will, in 2 minutes or less, explain what it is we do and why you should work with us. The process has been a lot of fun so far, mostly focused on the script and timing. At the moment, we are on draft # 6 of the script, so as you can imagine we’ve been busy refining our message and tweaking the storyline.

Last week, we were introduced to some of the main characters of the video and I thought it would be fun to share. First, there is “Bill”, who is your ‘every man’ that will be the lead character in our video. After that, we did some freehand concepts for how Versature will be represented as well as the “evil telco” character that represents the old way of acquiring and managing your business phone services.

billevil_telco You can click on the images to see them in a larger version. It will be great fun to see these characters come to life over the next few weeks as the video is animated and edited. Look for the finished product to be available sometime over the summer – it will probably be featured prominently on Versature’s website when it is ready. I’ll try to update the blog with details on our progress as we move forward through the different stages.

I’d highly recommend the folks over at inMotion if you are looking for video production work. They are local here in Ottawa but do work for companies across North America.

TechLinks – Elevator Pitches as Competition

November 16, 2012 - Paul Emond

Yesterday (Thursday the 15th of November) we sponsored TechLinks, an event put on by the folks over at Exploriem.org. We took a giant leap of faith because this is the first year for the event, so we had no idea what to expect. We were keen to support the startup community in some way during Global Entrepreneurship Week, so we jumped in with both feet.  The concept is that there are a number of invited businesses at the idea stage and/or some with prototypes that pitch their idea to the attendees.  It’s not a sit-down, stuffy, get uncomfortable in your chair type of event.  On the contrary, the room is setup so that each company has a small space to pitch their idea to the attendees as they walk through, mixing and mingling. Common Questions: CallerID Name and Number

August 08, 2012 - Jonathon Moody

A question we often hear from clients is what they can set for CallerID. With Versature clients assign both a CallerID name and number to each phone.

Yes, this means that you can easily split up your company so that outbound calls show specific names and numbers for different in house teams, different company names or even show the actual staff member’s name instead of the organization name when making a call.

With regards to limitation, the CallerID name field has no content restrictions except for length; most traditional phones only show a few characters making a short name the best option. For phone numbers this is a bit trickier – Versature does require that clients use a valid Versature phone number for outbound callerID. This prevents abuse and discourages other questionable activities. However, using the Call Privacy feature listed below you can block callerID on a per call basis if needed.

You can however set a unique CallerID phone number per phone or even use a number which only goes to voicemail as your callerID number.

Another question that comes up from time to time is what number appears if calls are forwarded to another destination like a cell phone. In this case the original callers information is passed to the end destination allowing you to decide how or if to answer the call. Continue Reading This Post ...

Open House Success!

July 23, 2012 - Jonathon Moody

Many thanks to all our neighbours, friends and clients who made it out to our Open House.

It turned out to be the roaring success we had hoped for and happily we had enough food and drinks for all who attended.

For those who missed the event I have included a few photos below and want to put out a big thanks to all our staff who attended and put the event together. Great work from everyone including Jessica who arranged most of the details.

It sounds like this may need to be an annual event, just without the move this time.

Marketing Tip: Branding & Your Customer Support Voice

March 05, 2012 - Paul Emond

Maria Ford. President of Kaszas Communications

The following is the second guest post on our blog by Maria Ford, president of Kaszas Communications.  Maria works with Versature on marketing & communications.  Here’s her take on a business phone system from a distinctly marcomm perspective.

A frequent oversight of organizations of any size is to consider marketing as a separate department or unique discipline. The problem with that is that the image-building function of marketing can’t be successful in a vacuum. Image-building occurs throughout an organization whether it’s realized or not – it occurs at every touch-point your target audiences may have with your company, products and services. Your company’s customer support voice is an excellent example.

Your brand is communicated long after the sale, such as when customers Continue Reading This Post ...

Are You Remarkable?

November 04, 2011 - Paul Emond

I attended a luncheon yesterday and was reminded of a book by Seth Godin called “The Purple Cow”.  In it, he talks about finding ways to make your products “remarkable”, that traditional advertising is too cluttered to matter, and that the only way to break through is to reach out and target people who can be advocates and spread your message through word-of-mouth.  The best example of this way of thinking in the real world is, of course, Apple.

At the luncheon, one of the attendees had a bit of a different take on Seth’s mantra. He feels that along with a great product, you should also make everyday mundane business decisions remarkable.  I hope he doesn’t mind if I share his story.

When Nazim‘s company was looking for new office space, they were brainstorming about ways to make this routine business need into a story that people would be interested in. Businesses go through the motions on things like office moves, christmas parties, anniversaries and even record sales months without anyone knowing .. the trick is how to make them “remarkable”.

Here was their solution.  In the centre of their new office digs, on a raised platform, they installed a fully functioning DJ booth.  Have a look at it here.  Now that’s outside the box thinking!  They did a bunch of other things as well, but you know it was the DJ booth that got all of the attention.

Along with the great “office vibe” something like this can generate, they also got some attention from the Globe and Mail and other publications like this one.  We’re actually planning an office move in the next year and I’ve started thinking about what we can do to make our new space remarkable.  Thanks Nazim!

How many other routine decisions do we make as business owners that we could jazz up with a little creativity?  Probably a lot of them.  It’s something that my team is going to be thinking about as we drive our growth to even higher levels over the next 18-24 months.
